Forum for a Flexible Economy in S’Agaró 2024

In the same place and at the same time, on the anniversary of its official debut in Girona, activos, the economic pillar of the Prensa Ibérica group, returns to the province to bring together the most influential players in its business and economic ecosystem. The 2024 Foro empresarial de S’Agaró, titled for a more flexible economy, is scheduled for Friday, September 27, starting at 11:30 a.m. It will again take place at the prestigious Hostal La Gavina on the Catalan coast, with sponsorship from the Platja d’Aro City Council, Garatge Plana, Banc Sabadell, and Etalentum.

The gathering is solidifying this edition as a must attend event to understand the needs of the companies that will shape the region’s future. Last year it drew a notable cross section of the business world and, to a lesser extent, Catalan politics, offering a broad snapshot of the landscape and bringing to light new initiatives and challenges for the economy. This edition will explore what has been achieved and what remains to be done.

The date, scheduled for Friday, September 27, will bring together investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

As usual, the host will be Martí Saballs, director of Economic Information at Prensa Ibérica. He will present and moderate a program that features panel discussions, dialogues, and policy interventions covering topics from business and innovation to investment and training. Business leaders, investors, and professionals will share their needs and discuss how companies can increase wealth creation and how the economy is responding, with a clear call for greater flexibility.

Talks and Roundtables

Attendees will begin arriving and will pass through the photo call. They will have half an hour for this before the event opens at noon with a welcome address by Aitor Moll, CEO of Prensa Ibérica. After his speech, the mayor of Platja d’Aro, Maurici Jiménez, will offer a brief greeting to attendees.

Entering the substantive program, the forum will open with the dialogue The New Mobility, featuring Francesc Fajula, general director of Mobile World Capital (MWC), alongside Saballs. The MWC, organizer of the Mobile World Congress, is a twelve-year-old institution dedicated to advancing digital development for society from a human-centered perspective.

Following this discussion, the president of the Diputació de Girona, Miquel Noguer, will speak, and then the conversation What Tourism Do We Deserve, moderated by Josep Callol, director of the Diari de Girona. Participants include José Antonio Donaire, professor at the Faculty of Tourism and researcher, and Agustí Codina, president and CEO of Med Playa, a hotel chain.

If all goes as planned, the midday hour will see the roundtable How to Keep Growing, moderated again by Saballs. Participants will include Alba Carré, CEO of Calsina Carré, a transport and logistics company; Sandra Masoliver, president of Fòrum Carlemany, a Girona-based nonprofit that unites companies and executives; Joaquim de Toca, general director of Muji, a retailer of home goods, clothing, and food; and Joan Agustí, CEO of OCINE, a cinema company.

Presence of the Councillor

The final roundtable of the day will be moderated by Callol, director of Diari de Girona, and will focus on the future challenges of the region. It will include David Boixader, CEO of Etalentum, a human resources consultancy; Josep Prat, vice president of Business Angels Girona, a network that brings together investors from the Girona area; and Núria Brunsó, manager of Ramaderia el Mont and a professor at the UPC and the Catalan Statistics Institute. Concluding, the institutional closing will be delivered by Alícia Romero, the Economy and Finance Councillor of the Generalitat de Catalunya, after which a cocktail will be held for attendees.

Activos reaches more than 400,000 monthly readers in print. It is distributed with seven of the group’s newspapers: El Periódico de Aragón, Diario de Mallorca, Diari de Girona, Regió7, Levante, Información, and El Periódico de Catalunya. Additionally, on its own website, it records 1.7 million unique users and 12 million page views each month.
