Girona’s economy focused on faster procedures and stronger growth

The event at Hostal La Gavina in S’Agaró showcased a vivid exchange among Prensa Ibérica, Diari de Girona, and El Periódico de Catalunya. Held during Girona’s day of dialogue about an economy in transition, the gathering brought together top regional players to discuss the current and future state of Girona’s economy through conversations and roundtables. The day highlighted the work of the main economic actors in the region.

The roundtable on Girona’s entrepreneurial transformation featured a discussion moderated by Oriol Puig, deputy director of Diari de Girona. The panel included Amara Camafreita, director of Major Companies at Banc Sabadell in Girona; Jaume Sanabras, chairman and founder of Marlex; Miquel Angel Bonachera, CEO of AB Biotics; and David Casellas, co-founder of Red Points. The session opened with remarks from the presidents who stressed the urgency of streamlined processes. Bonachera underscored the role of stock markets as a key valuation tool and noted that projects without clear funding avenues often fail to progress.

Casellas emphasized the importance of the conceptualizer role in a company, describing it as essential to turning ideas into concrete work. He shared a guiding motto that has guided his business approach: the success of a business idea should be grasped even by a grandparent. He also outlined factors he believes drive success: selecting the right company, operating in a mature market, and ensuring the product resonates with people.

The discussion highlighted Banc Sabadell’s ongoing support for startups as a model of how to accompany entrepreneurs through every stage of their business life. The idea is to build teams with sector-specific expertise that can guide a venture from inception to scale, a philosophy reflected in Banc Sabadell’s entrepreneurship program, which has already celebrated 75 success stories. This approach aims to create an ecosystem where entrepreneurs are understood from the ground up and provided with resources and guidance at every step.

Sanabras echoed the sentiment that progress depends on regional observance. He pointed to the Forum Carlemany’s objective of sharing knowledge among management teams to strengthen the entire business fabric. He concluded that Girona’s companies are performing well, reinforcing the notion that regional collaboration fuels sustainable growth. The roundtable also underscored the value of cohesive teams and emphasized that talent in the region should be nurtured and retained.

As the discussions closed, participants agreed that real success hinges on teamwork and a steady pipeline of skilled labor. The consensus was clear: the region must focus on practical, people-centered strategies to turn ideas into durable economic momentum. The event served as a reminder that progress in Girona relies on clarity of purpose, accessible capital, and a community of practitioners ready to implement ideas that improve everyday life for residents and businesses alike.
