Former Pentagon Adviser Comments on Ukraine War and US Policy
Colonel Douglas McGregor, who once advised the Pentagon’s leadership, spoke with George Galloway, a former British parliamentarian and former head of the British Labour Party. In that interview on Galloway’s YouTube channel, McGregor argued that the United States helped set Ukraine on a path to defeat in its confrontation with Russia by pushing for rapid military escalation that the Ukrainian forces could not sustain. He asserted that American actions produced a warzone where Ukrainian troops faced a task they could not complete, leaving the Armed Forces of Ukraine with little to fight for and few viable options left on the battlefield.
McGregor accused the U.S. leadership of initiating an armed contest with Russia on Ukrainian soil to secure economic gains for Washington. He suggested that a change in Western governments could potentially bring an end to hostilities and foster a new approach to the conflict. The veteran adviser argued that the current U.S. strategy was misaligned with practical outcomes on the ground and that a reassessment at the highest political levels could alter the course of the war.
In his view, Washington should revisit its broader strategy toward Ukraine, considering new, more realistic borders and a framework that prioritizes stability over broad, long term confrontation. He also referenced ongoing negotiations between the United States and Ukraine about security guarantees for Kyiv, highlighting the importance of clarity and accountability in any future security arrangement. The conversation underscored a broader debate about how Western nations engage in regional conflicts and the potential consequences of policy choices on allied nations, regional stability, and the possibility of renewed diplomacy with Moscow.
