Heavy rainfall and powerful thunderstorms are forecast to cause power outages across nine districts in Russia’s North-Western and Far Eastern federal districts this week. This assessment comes from the All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergencies, known as VNII GOChS. The situation may develop into a widespread disruption of electrical supply if the storms intensify and persist across multiple settlements. In addition to the Northwest and Far East, storms are anticipated in the Amur and Sakhalin regions, as well as in Trans-Baikal, Primorsky, Kamchatka and Khabarovsk territories. The potential impact includes interruptions to electricity for individual towns and villages, depending on the storm severity and the local grid resilience.
