Flood Impact in Ivolginsky District, Buryatia

Floodwaters overwhelmed residential buildings in the Ivolginsky district of Buryatia. The regional head, Alexey Tsydenov, reported that 22 people were evacuated as a result of the emergency. A Telegram channel provided additional details on the incident.

During the night, Tsydenov noted that 11 homes fell within the flood zone. In total, 22 residents were moved to safety, including six children. Local authorities confirmed that two people found temporary shelter at Gürülba Secondary School, while rescue teams and equipment remained deployed in the affected area.

The flood was caused by an ice jam on the Selenga River, which flows into Lake Baikal. Tsydenov said that today, as planned, traffic obstructions were being addressed by sappers from the Eastern Military District and the Ministry of Emergencies.

Earlier, in August of the previous year, a state of emergency was declared in Buryatia due to floods. Reports indicated that about 30 residences were inundated and residents were evacuated. The flooding was attributed to heavy rains affecting several regions, including Buryatia, Primorye, Transbaikal, Kamchatka, and Khabarovsk.

There were significant flooding events in April this year, with water levels rising and numerous homes impacted in the Orenburg and Kurgan regions. Local authorities worked to manage the rising water and its impact on communities.
