National Police have detained suspects believed to be involved in a brutal assault on a 27-year-old man in Alicante. The victim was struck with baseball bats and iron bars, threatened with a knife, and struck on the head with a bottle. Provincial Police confirmed the injuries required eight stitches.

Initial tensions stemmed from a minor dispute that occurred last May. The two groups reportedly crossed paths again recently at a popular entertainment venue near the San Juan beach area, where a glass bottle was hurled at the victim, resulting in a two-stitch wound.

Following the incident, the victim filed a report with the Police Station but later declined to pursue the case, citing fear of retaliation from individuals tied to a family clan well known in criminal circles.

During the confrontation, the alleged aggressors threatened the victim with a firearm, making it clear they would kill him if he returned to their neighborhood.

The incident occurred when the victim went to the neighborhood to visit relatives who lived there. A family member arrived with several clan members and notified others of the situation. The group used sticks, baseball bats, iron bars, and even a knife that was snatched from one assailant before it could be used against the victim.

Despite attempts to escape and take cover inside a bar, the victim was pursued and attacked with the various blunt instruments. Objects were thrown at him from a nearby workplace, including glass and furniture, which resulted in a severe forehead wound that required surgical care. The assault involved the throwing of items, including bottles and glasses, contributing to the injuries and the eight stitches needed for recovery.

Investigation work was carried out by the Judicial Police Operations Group of the Alicante Central Police Station, part of the National Police. After thorough inquiries, investigators identified and located all the suspects. One of them is currently serving a sentence at Fontcalent prison for related matters and is linked to the case in question.

The remaining arrests required the assistance of the Prevention and Response Unit (Rayos) of the Alicante Provincial Police Station, along with the Operational Response Groups from the Central and Northern Regional Police Stations. This cooperation reflected the perceived danger posed by those under investigation and their prior criminal records.

Five of the seven detainees, comprising six men and one woman of Spanish nationality aged between 26 and 55, were brought before the Court of Cassation to face charges in the same town. The sixth individual remains incarcerated at the prison indicated, awaiting further court involvement after giving a statement to police. The seventh person was released following their police deposition while awaiting summons to appear in court.
