Officials confirmed to journalists that a blaze was burning at the refinery, with authorities in the Kuibyshevsky district acknowledging the emergency when questioned about the incident.

Earlier, local residents had circulated posts on social networks about the incident, with some reporting two loud explosions heard in the area. Eyewitness comments described a tense atmosphere as responders moved to assess the situation and secure the site.

In early March, the Nizhny Novgorod region experienced a separate incident when the regional governor reported a fire at the Nizhny Novgorod oil refinery. Residents in the region conveyed to media outlets details about a drone attack affecting the facility, noting unusual sounds and vibrations prior to the incident at the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez plant. A resident of Kstovo described hearing a persistent hum before the drone impact, while another from Knyaginino stated the drone passed over her home on two occasions during the night.

Additionally, the Slavyansk refinery has been cited in reports as having sustained damage from Ukrainian drone activity, with authorities proceeding to evaluate the extent of the damage and the potential impact on operations.
