The Incident in Catarroja Involving a Fight Outside a Club and a Fatal Injury
Early yesterday, a violent confrontation outside a late-night venue in Catarroja escalated and left a man severely injured. He was hospitalized, and the alleged attacker was detained by local authorities in connection with the charges that emerged at the scene. Investigators noted the use of a screwdriver in the assault as the incident unfolded near the parking area used by patrons of the club region in Catarroja.
The events occurred around five o’clock in the morning, adjacent to the Silla track, in a zone frequented by customers of a well-known hostess club in Catarroja. The victim, described as approximately 30 years old and reportedly of Moroccan origin, was accompanied by a friend. Both men appeared to be heavily intoxicated according to statements gathered by the Civil Guard. The circumstances describe a night that had already soured, with witnesses noting the friends had been involved in a dispute with two other men outside the establishment.
According to the initial statements obtained by investigators, the two men who were customers of the club encountered the situation after realizing they had misplaced their car keys. They left the club with the keys later recovered on the ground, but the confrontation continued. The victim and his companion responded verbally and, at times, with threats directed toward the two intoxicated individuals. Witnesses who spoke with investigators described a tense moment that rapidly deteriorated into physical aggression as the group argued in the street.
Two Armenian visitors, who were briefly in Valencia staying with relatives, did not heed the provocations and threats. One of them began a physical assault on the victim’s companion, while the other struck and kicked. The aggressor, described as a man aged about 45, then produced a screwdriver and stabbed it into the skull of the man who had attacked his friend. The victim collapsed and lost consciousness on the pavement, prompting immediate emergency response.
Emergency medical services, including a SAMU ambulance crew, arrived promptly and attempted to stabilize the situation at the scene. Despite their efforts, the victim was transported to La Fe University Hospital in Valencia with a very serious head injury. Medical teams provided care in an attempt to save his life; however, the injuries proved fatal and the victim died around noon the following day. The body was subsequently transferred to the Valencia Institute of Forensic Medicine for the autopsy that was scheduled for today, as part of the ongoing investigation.
As the investigation continued, authorities confirmed the discovery of the weapon used in the assault, a screwdriver, near the site of the attack. A patrol from Alfafar Civil Guard arrested the alleged attacker in the hours immediately after the incident, initially charging him with attempted murder. Following the victim’s death, prosecutors are pursuing a murder charge against the suspect. The investigation team from the Alfafar forensic police has been actively collecting statements from the alleged perpetrator and several witnesses, including two additional men who were present during the altercation outside the Catarroja hostess club.
The case remains under active inquiry, with investigators emphasizing the need to reconstruct the sequence of events in full to understand how the confrontation unfolded and to determine the exact motive behind the stabbing. Forensic analysts are examining the circumstances surrounding the weapon, the timeline of the engagement, and the involvement of each party present that night. The Civil Guard continues to urge anyone with information to come forward to assist the ongoing inquiry, while the community awaits any further updates on this tragic incident.
