Even in winter, many people crave a countryside escape to break the daily routine and the week’s hustle. Route through Elche Reservoir

Within Elche Reservoir’s area there are several paths. The most complete loop is about eight kilometers long and starts at Molí del Real. From there the route climbs toward the dam. Along the way you pass valleys, basins, ditches and aqueducts. At the far end you reach the reservoir and the impressive 23-meter dam built on the Vinalopó River.

The route is straightforward and affordable, making it suitable even for children. It’s a family stroll along a narrow path that runs along part of the riverbank. The path is well signposted, with information panels and wooden railings for safety.

One of the most striking spots on the route is the old bridge and the Five Eyes Perspective. Throughout the walk, visitors can observe typical regional fauna and flora in their natural habitat.

Another highlight is the wavy harbor, a structure about eighty meters long that connects the swamp’s tail to the dam, creating an interesting focal point along the journey.

How to get to Elche reservoir

Elche Reservoir lies roughly 4.5 kilometers north of the city. The easiest way to reach it is by car: take the A70 motorway from Alicante toward Elche, then at the Carrús neighborhood, exit 518 onto CV-84 toward Aspe.

From there, continue straight through the first two intersections, and in the third take the first exit marked “swamp path.” If you depart from Elche, you have two options: walk through the city, or drive to the marsh area and cover the last 3.5 kilometers of the route that delves into the marshland.

If you choose the second option, use Elche’s northern ring road (CV-8615) and proceed along the old Pantano road, also known as the Magros road. Soon you will reach a wide walkway where parking is available.
