Route through Elche Reservoir
Within the Elche reservoir area, there are several route choices. The most comprehensive option covers about 8 kilometers, starting near Molí del Real. From that point, the climb leads toward the dam. Along the way, travelers pass valleys, basins, ditches, and aqueducts, culminating at the reservoir and the impressive 23-meter dam on the Vinalopó River.
The route is straightforward and budget-friendly, making it suitable for children as well as adults. It invites families to take a relaxed stroll together. A shorter stretch runs along part of the Vinalopó riverbank, is well signposted, and features informative panels and wooden railings for safety and context.
The route highlights include the old bridge and a vantage point known as Five Eyes Perspective. During the walk, visitors will observe the typical fauna and flora of the region, adding a touch of discovery to the experience.
Another notable feature is the walk along the Elche Marsh, a serene landscape that offers opportunities for observation and photography. Visitors will also encounter the 80-meter-long wavy harbor path that connects the river tail to the dam, providing a satisfying finish to the route.
How to get to Elche reservoir?
Elche Reservoir lies about 4.5 kilometers north of the city. The simplest option for drivers is to take the A70 motorway from Alicante toward Elche, then exit at Carrús and follow CV-84 toward Aspe. This route brings travelers directly to the reservoir area and its nearby facilities.

From there, continue straight through the first two intersections you encounter, and at the third, take the first exit marked swamp path. If arriving from Elche, two options exist: walk the full route through the city or drive to the swamp region and cover the last 3.5 kilometers of the journey, venturing deeper into the marshes.
If choosing the second option, use Elche’s northern ring road, CV-8615, and proceed to the old marsh road, also called the Magros path. Soon a wide walkway will appear where parking is available, enabling convenient access to the trailhead and a smooth start to the excursion.
