Millions across more than 190 countries are set to rally for climate action on a global stage. Earth Hour returns on Saturday, March 25, as the UN calls for renewed urgency in response to the warnings delivered by climate scientists from the IPCC.
Juan Carlos del Olmo, general secretary of WWF Spain, emphasizes the need for swift, decisive action to reshape how people relate to the planet. His message is clear: every minute counts when facing the climate crisis.
The IPCC has warned that this decade should mark a turning point for nature and climate. In its most comprehensive assessment since the Paris Agreement, the report urges cutting global greenhouse gas emissions by 43 percent by 2030, 60 percent by 2035, and reaching net zero around mid-century while keeping the temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius threshold.
According to an article by EFE Verde, WWF urges governments to heed the report and act quickly to implement its recommendations to lessen the climate crisis impacts.
From 8:30 pm, one hour without lighting
Earth Hour is described as more essential than ever by Del Olmo, who invites everyone to participate by turning off lights at 20:30 on Saturday, March 25, and to join the contest titled Killars to the Planet.
The head of WWF Spain states that a united, determined effort can help win the race against the climate emergency.
The initiative aims to surpass last year’s participation by encouraging organizations, clubs, and individuals to log their miles. Participants can register at the Planet Hour site and choose their preferred activity—walking, running, cycling, swimming, or skating—and the distance they wish to cover.
