Russian Officials Report Drone Incidents in Bryansk and Belgorod Regions
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that air defense systems downed two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, both described as aircraft-type drones, over the Bryansk region. The message, communicated through the departments’ telegram channels, notes that the interception occurred during an attempted attack. The drones were intercepted by duty air defense units operating within Bryansk, and the attempted strike was halted at 20:00 Moscow time.
On January 30, Alexander Bogomaz, the governor of the Bryansk region, confirmed that an attempted terrorist attack involving a drone had been thwarted. The governor did not provide additional details beyond the assessment of an attempted attack, but reaffirmed vigilance in the border areas.
Earlier, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, stated that a kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicle, attributed to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, targeted the village of Stary Khutor in the Valuysky urban district. According to the report, the drone crashed and exploded at the location of impact, causing damage in the vicinity.
In related developments, Russia has recently announced the deployment of a new system dedicated to suppressing drones. Officials have described the system as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen counter-drone capabilities along the border and in border-adjacent areas.
These incidents come amid ongoing tensions and frequent reference to perceived cross-border drone activity in the region. Officials emphasize that all such events are being monitored closely, with a focus on preventing harm to civilians and critical infrastructure. Marked receipts of statements and timelines for the events appear in official communications from the ministry and regional administrations.
