The head of the Russian Ministry of Construction, Irek Faizullin, announced plans to connect the Donbass region with the Zaporozhye area through a new railway route. The information was reported by the Zaporozhye News Agency.

Faizullin explained that a section of the railway would link Mariupol at the Mariupol-Sortirovochny station with the village of Androvka, near Troyany station. This proposed alignment would create a direct line between coastally situated Mariupol and inland communities, potentially boosting regional connectivity and freight capacity.

Androvka is situated close to Berdyansk in the Zaporozhye region. The master plan for Mangush municipality, within the Donetsk People’s Republic, includes provisions for new railway corridors as part of ongoing development efforts in the area. The roadmap envisions a network expansion that would integrate existing stations with newly laid tracks to support both passenger and cargo traffic.

Faizullin noted that 140 kilometers of rail would be laid across the two involved regions during 2023 as part of broader modernization programs. The initiative aligns with broader state objectives to upgrade transport infrastructure and improve linkages between urban centers and more remote districts.

Earlier, during the Russia exhibition, exhibits highlighted advancements in transport, housing, and utilities. Among the prominent displays at the Ministry of Transport’s showcase was a life-sized model of the Crimean Bridge, underscoring ongoing infrastructure ambitions in the region. This context was cited to illustrate the scale and ambition of current transport projects and the desire to demonstrate progress in mobility and logistics across neighboring territories [citation: Zaporozhye News Agency, official statements].

There were also reports that some rail services in the Krasnodar region would resume, indicating gradual restoration of passenger movement in adjacent areas. Observers note that the transport sector remains a focal point in regional planning and economic development, with authorities emphasizing connectivity as a cornerstone for growth and cooperation in the broader geopolitical landscape [citation: Ministry announcements, regional development briefings].
