Authorities in Madrid have detained nine individuals in connection with a fatal incident in the Chamartín district last year. Among those arrested are five minors, accused in the case of a violent murder attributed to a youth gang known as Dominican Play, or DDP. The crime is linked to events that occurred about a year ago and involved serious offenses carried out by members of this group.
According to the General Directorate of Security, the incident occurred on August 19, 2021, when attackers affiliated with DDP allegedly attacked a young man, inflicting life-threatening injuries. The sequence of events began on Sánchez Pacheco street, where the victim reportedly faced three PDDs and was addressed with terms commonly associated with the Blood gang. The victim continued toward his residence, where several friends were waiting, but three DDP members tailed him. In addition, six other individuals from the gang arrived at the scene and began provoking the young man, who did not belong to any organized group at the time of the confrontation.
During the ensuing clash, the victim sustained injuries from a machete as he attempted to defend himself. He sought refuge in a nearby home where his friends were staying, but the situation escalated before emergency responders could intervene. The victim later succumbed to his injuries, prompting a thorough investigation by local authorities and police detectives in the aftermath of the incident.
Investigators initiated inquiries at the crime scene and, after an extended period of evidence collection and interviews, identified the group members responsible. All nine individuals were subsequently taken into custody and brought before the judicial authorities and the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. A court decree called for placement in juvenile detention centers for the minors, with additional probation for one of the members. The case remains under active review as authorities pursue further legal proceedings and review of associated charges, alongside ongoing monitoring of the juvenile participants.
