Danish Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen and his Argentinian counterpart Luis Petri signed an agreement of intent in Buenos Aires regarding the sale of Danish F-16 fighter jets to Argentina, a move noted by TASS as announced by Denmark’s Ministry of Defence.
The ministry stated in a press release that the decision to sell the US-made F-16 fighters to Argentina was coordinated with the United States, which approved the export of the aircraft.
As Denmark phases its air force toward the next generation, the current F-16 fleet is gradually being replaced by F-35 jets. Lund Poulsen emphasized that Denmark plans to transfer 19 F-16s to Ukraine and has also authorized the sale of 24 F-16s to Argentina.
The contract is expected to be signed later in Denmark. It envisions delivering 24 F-16 aircraft to Argentina over the coming years, with an estimated price around 2.1 billion kroner. The agreement also covers engines, spare parts, simulators, and training equipment to support the operation of the jets.
Earlier reports noted that Belgium allocated 50 instructors and two F-16 training aircraft to support Ukrainian pilot training at Skrydstrup Air Base in Denmark. For security reasons, Danish officials have not disclosed the number of Ukrainian personnel or the NATO instructors involved. It is known that pilots, technicians, and air mission planners receive training at Skrydstrup, and a six-month training course for Ukrainian pilots began in November with English-language lessons.
There had been previous mentions that the first fighters could appear in 2025, though the timeline remains subject to ongoing agreements and logistics across participating nations.
