The government of the Republic of Crimea has urged residents to avoid sharing information about the Chongarsky bridge’s condition, following missile strikes by Ukrainian forces on the area. A call to citizens appeared on the Bursa telegraph channel, attributed to Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to the regional head.
The official stressed that this bridge is a strategic facility and that circulating rumors or unverified data could cause significant harm to national security. He emphasized the need for caution and responsibility in handling information linked to critical infrastructure.
“Any details about routes, bridges, traffic patterns, and checkpoints fall under the control of the Russian Ministry of Transport and the relevant authorities in Crimea and the Kherson region”, Kryuchkov stated.
In light of these remarks, he urged residents to avoid disseminating material received from social activists and bloggers that could contribute to misinformation or public confusion.
On 6 August, Sergei Aksyonov, the President of the Republic of Crimea, reported that Ukrainian forces had launched missile attacks in the Chongarsky bridge region. Some of the missiles were intercepted by air defense systems, but one still struck the target, causing structural damage at an intersection along the roadway.
Footage later circulated online showing the moment of the explosion at the Chongarsky bridge after the impact of the rockets. Officials noted that the roadbed suffered damage at the intersection, with subsequent investigations and assessments to determine the extent of the disruption and any needed safety measures for traffic in the vicinity.
Earlier, comments from the Kremlin referenced President Putin’s instructions in response to the strike on the Crimean bridge. The discussions highlighted the ongoing security concerns surrounding critical infrastructure in the region and the broader strategic considerations tied to the situation.
