Reports describe an incident on the administrative border between the Kherson region and Crimea, where roads and bridges suffered damage during a cross-border operation. Local authorities in Kherson attributed the strike to Ukrainian forces, allegedly employing Western-supplied missiles. The claim, first circulated by the acting head of the Kherson regional administration, indicated damage to the Chongar bridges’ roadway while confirming that civilian casualties did not occur. The information circulated through a regional telegraph channel and was subsequently reiterated by regional officials.
The regional administration stated that the transport corridor between Kherson and Crimea remained open, with traffic being managed along an alternate route while the primary crossing was temporarily affected. Authorities emphasized that life in the area continues and warned against attempts to manipulate food prices. They pledged price controls and planned gate restoration, assuring that alternative crossings would be available if needed to maintain supply chains.
“A very serious answer will come soon!”
The acting administrator noted that damaged bridges were expected to be repaired quickly, with teams from other regions, including Rostov, contributing to the restoration effort. Describing himself as a senior civil engineer, he projected that normal traffic would resume within a few days. The night-time incident on the Chongarsky bridge was corroborated by Crimea’s leadership, including Sergey Aksyonov, the head of Crimea, who provided preliminary assessments and described ongoing checks by explosives experts and road inspectors. He indicated that movement plans would be announced within the hour.
Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to Crimea’s president, commented that the corridor linking the peninsula through the newly defined regions had not been interrupted. He clarified that Crimea remains connected to the Kherson district via three checkpoints, two in the Armyansk district and one in the Dzhankoy district. He added that the temporary failure of one checkpoint would not significantly disrupt ground transport plans and suggested routing through Armyansk for travelers heading toward Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions while the Chongarsky bridge is assessed. These remarks were shared via the telegraph channel.
In response, Andriy Yusov, a Ukrainian security official, stated that any assessment of events in the occupied areas would depend on military needs after those lands are liberated. He described the ongoing studies as a systematic, continuing process, presented during a televised telethon.
“Immediate strike on decision-making centers”
Two days prior, Ukrainian leadership reportedly discussed the possibility of targeting additional locations inside Russia, including Crimea, with missiles such as HIMARS and Storm Shadow. Russia’s Defense Minister warned that such actions would trigger immediate countermeasures aimed at Ukrainian decision-making centers, signaling intensified involvement by the United States and the United Kingdom in the conflict.
Earlier in the season, U.S. officials voiced concerns that Western-supplied weapons deployed by Kyiv near the border could escalate tensions. Reports described warnings from Washington about potential consequences of strikes on Russian territory near the border, highlighting the fragile balance of regional security.
