Court Convicts 17-Year-Old Bashkir Schoolgirl Over Terrorism Links

A court in Bashkortostan convicted a 17-year-old schoolgirl for involvement in terrorist activities. Local Telegram channels reported on the case as well as details of the proceedings.

According to law enforcement, in 2023 the student supported and approved the actions of Columbine, an organization banned in Russia. Investigators recovered her diaries and equipment during searches, and expert analysis of recordings indicated signs of alignment with the movement. Consequently, authorities opened a criminal case accusing her of organizing and taking part in terrorist actions. A subsequent case was then initiated for disseminating terrorist propaganda connected with the same activities.

The court ruled the girl guilty and sentenced her to five years and six months in a general regime penal colony. She was also prohibited from managing websites and online channels for the next two years as part of the judgment.

Earlier, a supporter of the Islamic State group, an organization banned in Russia, was detained in Moscow, highlighting the broader pattern of concern around extremist affiliations in the country.
