The Civil Guard detachment in Huesca has joined mountain rescue teams from Aragon and Navarra to assist an injured caver. Early on Wednesday morning, the rescue operation unfolded in the Ansó municipality, within Huesca province. The team transported the injured person to Jaca Hospital after stabilizing him on the field. Civil Guard authorities indicated that the rescues are centered around the Pico la Sima stretch along the A-60 route in the area managed by the local authorities during this period.
Earlier in the afternoon of August 9, responders reached the location where the injured man was found. A 52 year old resident of Rivas Vaciamadrid in Madrid required support from GEDEX Zaragoza and from GREIM experts for pain relief and medical aid. The initial assessments described injuries to the shoulder and arm, and medical teams began to administer first care to stabilize the patient for safe evacuation.
Rescue operations continued with a coordinated plan that divided the team into three work zones aimed at withdrawing the casualty from a pit reaching a depth of 450 meters. A robust contingent of fifty Civil Guards was involved in the effort. The personnel included forty one GREIM specialists stationed across Jaca, Panticosa, Boltaña, Benasque, Huesca, Mora de Rubielos, Tarazona, and Pamplona. In addition, three GEDEX Zaragoza technicians joined the mission, along with two aviation specialists from the Huesca Air Unit who provided air support. Early this morning, a team of twenty one lifeboat operators from the Onís region joined the operation, expanding the network of responders. Espeleosocorro teams from Aragon also contributed essential support to the rescue, ensuring a broad and coordinated response to the demanding terrain.
