A caregiver aged 42 has been detained by the national police on suspicion of sexually assaulting two elderly residents, aged 100 and 90, at a public seniors facility in San Sebastián de los Reyes. A spokesperson from the Madrid police headquarters confirmed the arrest to the press.
Initial investigations indicate that the accused, identified as José Raúl R.E., a Spaniard with El Salvadoran origins, worked the night shift at the care home and day center Moscatelares. He is alleged to have exploited the residents’ vulnerability and the moments when they were alone in their rooms to carry out the assaults.
According to reports, the eldest resident reported to a staff member what had happened the night before. A local newspaper noted that the initial response did not fully credence the victim, leading to a decision to relocate the employee to another floor.
Days later, a second victim, age 90, who did not know the first, informed management that she had been assaulted. The caregiver was subsequently dismissed, and the incident was reported on the 26th to the police and to the victims’ families, who filed formal complaints.

The authorities apprehended José Raúl the following Wednesday on two counts of sexual assault. He was ordered to appear before a judge the next day and was released with a restraining order prohibiting contact within 200 meters of the facility and the victims, who have undergone medical examinations to assess the reported injuries and impacts.
The investigation remains active as the police do not rule out additional reports. The individual, who had not previously been accused, began working at the Moscatelares facility in October but has had a career in the sector since 2015. Authorities are reviewing the candidate’s employment history and related records.
