vodafone hike
The major telecom operator Vodafone linked its price adjustments to the Consumer Price Index, meaning annual updates will automatically apply. The first increase took effect on January 22, 2023. Consumers should expect an average rise in monthly charges, with the impact varying by plan. Overall, Vodafone customers face an average jump of about 4 euros per month, depending on the chosen rate. Mobile-only plans are set to rise by roughly 2.50 euros per month, while convergence packages could see average increases near 5.50 euros per month. Importantly, households enjoying social tariffs will be shielded from the increment.
Images from the company’s Madrid headquarters have accompanied coverage of these changes, underscoring the tangible industry-wide shift in pricing during the year.
Movistar increased its rates by 6.8%
Movistar announced an average price increase of 6.8% for the year, applying to both mobile-only plans and converged fibre, mobile, and television packages. For 2023, television packages are expected to become more expensive, and mobile line charges are set to climb as well. A breakdown from the monitoring body shows the following highlights:
- The majority of TV packages will see higher prices in 2023.
- Essential TV will cost about one euro more per month, landing between 10 and 11 euros.
- The football option will add roughly two euros monthly.
- The LaLiga channel is priced at 32 euros, while a football-inclusive bundle rises to 45 euros.
- On the mobile side, an unlimited plan with a single GB SIM and unlimited calls rises by about 2 euros to a total of 41.95 euros.
- The XL plan, featuring unlimited calls and 30 GB of data, increases by 1 euro per month.
Convergence packages are also affected. A fibre plan offering up to 1,000 Mbps and unlimited data will increase by 5 euros, bringing the price to about 74.90 euros per month. For bundles that include an extra line, the monthly cost rises to around 90.90 euros.
In retail outlets, Movistar has signaled that the trend toward higher pricing will be visible across product lines, with both entertainment and connectivity options reflecting the broader market change for 2023.
Orange raises prices and trims promotions
Orange also moved to adjust its pricing as of March 12, with several packages affected. Non-football bundles will see an increase of about 2 euros per month, while fibre, mobile, and television packages without football will increase by approximately 5 euros. This aligns with a broader industry pattern of pricing readjustments that affects both standalone and bundled services.
