Canada to Accelerate NATO Mission Equipment in Latvia as Finland and Sweden Move Toward NATO Membership

Reuters reports that Canada will speed up the purchase of defense equipment for the NATO mission led by Ottawa in Latvia. The procurement plan includes man-portable anti-tank missiles, anti-drone systems, and air defense capabilities. Canada aims to strengthen its presence in Latvia, where it maintains the largest foreign military footprint, with the goal that these enhanced capabilities will reinforce the security of allied forces under Canadian leadership along NATO’s eastern flank.

Turkey’s presidential spokesperson İbrahim Kalın has stated that Finland and Sweden have taken the necessary positive steps to join NATO.

According to Anadolu Agency, citing diplomatic sources, Sweden and Finland have not yet fulfilled all obligations toward Turkey in connection with their NATO membership bids.
