Police in the Central Region of Catalonia’s Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating the death of a 28-year-old man who was found Tuesday around 11 p.m. in the town of Callús, near Barcelona.
The body was discovered in a wooded area by the Cardener river as it passes through the municipality. A judicial commission confirmed the death, and after confirming the victim’s identity, investigators began work to determine the causes of death, which are being treated as violent.
Authorities are now working to determine whether the man was killed in that forested area or if the body was moved there before being left at the site. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the victim to establish how the crime occurred, and have begun reconstructing the last hours of his life while searching for possible suspects.
This incident marks the second fatality in Catalonia in three days. On Monday, a man died on a rural road in Cambrils after being struck by an acquaintance, who is of Romanian nationality like the victim and with whom he had prior confrontations. The Mossos continue to pursue the accused and gather evidence as the investigation unfolds.
