Bolivian Prosecutors Charge Jesuits Over 1961 Abuse Cover-Up

A Bolivia’s public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday that three Jesuit priests have been charged in connection with a case of child abuse involving a deceased Spanish priest, Alejandro Mestre Descals, who served as archbishop in La Paz in the early 1960s. The accusation centers on the priests’ alleged role in covering up the misconduct rather than on direct involvement in the abuse itself, as the public prosecutor described the actions of the defendants.
