Spain’s Alicante province hides precious natural corners that invite a refreshing escape. One of the most majestic yet lesser known places is Cint Valley, a route through the heart of Sierra de Mariola where griffon vultures soar freely above the landscape.

Route via Barranc del Cint
The chint valley lies very close to Alcoy. The path begins at the Preventionorio recreation area and follows the GR7 markers as you progress. The route winds through a mountain pass that narrows with the rise of the crags. The walls grow taller, and at the summit vultures glide over the space. The trail continues beyond the vultures and leads toward the Sant Cristòfol hermitage, finally circling back to the starting point near Alcoy Prevention.
This hiking route is ideal for families.
The Benissaidó River once flowed along this route, but today it has been redirected to supply drinking water to Alcoy. The pass was historically used to reach the town of Bocairent on the far side of Sierra de Mariola.
The perfect walking route to disconnect from everything in Alicante
The track spans 9 kilometers with medium difficulty, suitable for adults and children who enjoy long walks. It forms a circular route with a total descent of 560 meters. Expect about four hours to watch vultures silently across the sky, moving at a steady pace and stopping to photograph the scenery.

The route to Barranc del Cint in Alcoy
As noted earlier, the route begins and ends at the Preventionorio recreation area, where parking is available. To reach the recreation area, take the CV-796 road from Alcoy.
After leaving the vehicle, walk a few meters to pass the Preventionorio building and turn right onto the path. This road leads into the valley, where a 1.5 kilometer stretch along steep walls awaits. Vultures can already be seen circling above.

About thirty minutes into the pass, a fork appears. Take the left fork and walk another half hour toward the open field where vultures glide overhead.
It is important to wear sturdy shoes for rough terrain.
Then continue on the PR-CV 133.1 route toward the Sant Cristofol hermitage. A short stop here offers a chance to relax and capture panoramic views of Alcoy.

After a short break, the path passes in front of the hermitage and returns to the starting point. Crossing the wooden bridge brings walkers back to the asphalt where the car was left.
