Billing ASV Group received strong support last year thanks to international expansion plans that opened entry into the North American market. The funeral services and medical transport division showed solid progress, and a management contract with UTE was renewed in 2022 for continued operation of the Generalitat Valenciana ambulance network.

In parallel, the Paya family, owners of multiple funeral homes such as Immortelle in Alicante, together with the Meridian insurance arm, closed the year with a turnover near 194.8 million euros, marking a 14% rise. The group maintained profitability with about 9.2 million euros in net profit, despite higher spending and investment levels, supported by a robust euro balance.

These results bolster expectations for 2023, aiming to consolidate international trade, sustain growth in funeral services across the national market, and steadily improve service delivery. A new distribution line was introduced through Bancassurance Meridiano in collaboration with Banco Sabadell, as announced by the group chief executive Guillermo Payá.

Segments

Segmentation by funeral services rose from 64.9 million euros to 74.2 million euros. A significant advance came from the United States acquisition last year, where an investment of 24 million dollars (about 22 million euros at current rates) acquired the Southern Cremations & Funeral group, which operates several funeral homes and cemeteries in the Atlanta metro area. That market contributed seven million euros to the holding’s 2022 turnover.

The group also welcomed a new operator in Nuremberg, Germany, expanding its presence in a country where it has been active since 2014. In addition, the group holds a stake in Grupo Recordar, a leading name in Colombia’s funeral sector.

For medical transportation services, the division added 58.6 million euros to the group’s figures, up from 46.5 million the previous year. This increase reflects the service provision for the Generalitat Valenciana after 2022, a project won again by the Valencia administration.

Agreement with Sabadell

The insurer division reported turnover of 60.2 million euros, up 1.8 million from 2022. Meridiano reached a marketing agreement with Banco de Sabadell to distribute death insurance through its branches, marking a core growth area for the company.

Beyond these moves, the holding company also includes Purgatory, a business focused on producing and marketing funeral urns, wreaths, and pendants; among other ventures such as viralba’s eco-friendly coffins and Holm Oak, a winery in El Bonillo.

Overall, the group’s average workforce last year stood at 2,690 employees. The company strives to position Grupo ASV as a top place to work, while prioritizing customer experience and making a positive social and environmental impact through its products and services, as stated by Payá.
