The National Police arrested a 43-year-old man in Alicante last weekend after he assaulted his mother and threatened her with a knife inside her home in the PAU 2 district. The suspect is the victim’s son, and after the incident he locked himself inside the residence, blocking entry for the officers who arrived on the scene. At one point, he even sprayed police with pepper spray when responders attempted to gain access.
The events occurred on Saturday around 2:00 p.m., when the National Police received a call from the mother, who managed to escape the house and report the incident, according to police sources. The man in question allegedly began threatening his mother with a knife. When she attempted to leave the dwelling, he assaulted her, but the mother ultimately managed to flee and alert authorities, police said.
The suspect appeared to be under the influence of substances and was described as highly aggressive and agitated. When officers reached the home, the suspect confronted them in a hostile manner and tried to prevent their entry by blocking the doorway with furniture. He is also reported to have sprayed pepper spray toward the officers.
Once police were able to enter, the man was found on the balcony, partially outside the building with a knife in his hands and the glass door closed. Officers managed to calm him down and restrain him. In the apartment, four knives, pepper spray, and traces of illegal drugs were found. The man, who is Spanish and 43 years old, was taken into custody and transported to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation, with police custody continuing there. (Source: National Police authorities)
