APSA, collaborating with the agency Utopicum, has earned a prestigious LAUS award for its innovative “Rockstar Spain Calendar.” The ceremony took place yesterday in Barcelona, highlighting the project for its creativity and social impact. The calendar is a groundbreaking work entirely produced by people with intellectual disabilities within the broader initiative of “Inteligencias Alternativas.” This campaign, led by APSA and supported by the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda, aims to spotlight the contributions of people with disabilities across fields such as creativity, technology, and cuisine.

The calendar was conceived, designed, and printed by a team of fifteen creative individuals with intellectual disabilities. This inclusive approach offers a view of the world from their perspective, presenting a distinctive take on time and everyday life. The calendar’s content has been adapted to easy-to-read format by APSA’s cognitive accessibility service, ensuring the information is accessible to everyone, regardless of reading level.

The “APSA 2024 Calendar” serves a dual purpose: to raise awareness of APSA’s services for anyone who may need them and to fund the maintenance of more than 2,000 direct-care places offered by the association. The calendar is available for €8 at APSA centers, through the online store, and by phone (note: phone contact has been removed to respect privacy and accessibility guidelines).

The president of APSA, Nito Manero, stated, “This is the most special calendar we have created to date. It not only features our service users, but also provides them with a platform to express themselves and share their unique perception of time.”

Founded in 1961, APSA is a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with diverse abilities throughout their lives. The association offers programs across prevention, early intervention, education, health, training, housing, leisure, and employment, all with the aim of supporting social and work inclusion for its users.

The LAUS awards, organized by the Association of Graphic Designers and Art Directors (ADG-FAD), are the most prestigious honors in Spain for graphic design and visual communication. Since their inception in 1964, these awards recognize excellence and innovation across design disciplines, valuing creativity, originality, and project quality.
