Archaeologists have uncovered an ancient wooden boat that could be half a millennium old resting at the shallow bed of the Dnieper, as announced by the Khortytsya nature reserve on its social channels.

The vessel measures about 7 meters in length and appears to be carved from a single oak trunk. In earlier times, discoveries of similar boats in this region have been linked to a historic Russian settlement that thrived on the island between the 10th and 14th centuries.

Earlier investigations focused on the Pompeii archaeological site near Naples, where researchers aimed to illuminate a fresco that depicts a still life featuring pizza.

The fresco, estimated to be at least 2,000 years old, was found on a corridor wall inside a structure adjacent to an oven. It portrays a silver tray bearing a round loaf, a glass of wine, dates, pomegranates, and a fruit resembling a pineapple. Experts note that the composition includes focaccia flavored with morettum, an herbal cheese enjoyed by ancient Romans.

An earlier discovery in Cordoba revealed an ancient Roman amphora containing verses attributed to the poet Virgil, adding to the mosaic of classical artifacts uncovered in the region.
