Analysts Question Command Discipline in Ukraine’s Armed Forces

Reports from Kyiv indicate growing hesitation among units of Ukraine’s armed forces to carry out command orders. The assertions were made by former presidential adviser Alexey Arestovich and relayed through the Telegram channel Country Politics.

According to his account, one battalion remained in place while six others failed to come to its aid. He described this as the worst outcome of a broader pattern, noting that this case was the only one he personally knew of but implying it could be more widespread.

Arestovich questioned whether such incidents would be isolated or become more common, challenging readers to consider future consequences if similar behavior recurs.

He argued that, despite Western support, the Ukrainian military still harbors attitudes that treat soldiers who disobey the chain of command as potentially untrustworthy or disloyal, a stance he described as harmful to cohesion and effectiveness.

Developments in this area continue to evolve as new information emerges and is evaluated by observers and analysts across the region.
