Ambulance sirens pierced the air in Ibiza’s Ses Figueretes district shortly after 7:30 this evening as traffic halted around a tragic event. A 74-year-old Spanish woman was struck by a vehicle, and witnesses say the driver fled the scene. Local authorities say the vehicle was later intercepted on Port de la Savina Street, and the driver was detained after officers determined there were alcohol and drug influences involved. The city council is detailing the incident and its ongoing investigation.

The elderly pedestrian was reportedly walking at the intersection where Sant Jordi Street meets Galicia Street when the car struck him and did not stop. The sudden collision left the area desolate for a moment, with bystanders witnessing the unfolding aftermath and the immediate response from emergency services.

Emergency teams arrived at the scene with rapid response units, deploying a mobile intensive care unit alongside a Basic Life Support ambulance. The response came from units operated by 061 and the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic. According to 061, trained healthcare professionals attempted to resuscitate the victim, who sustained a serious head injury. Despite their efforts, the patient succumbed to cardiorespiratory arrest.

Two units from the Ibiza National Police Service attended the scene, accompanied by Vila Local Police, which arrived in two pickup trucks and a patrol car. Local officers coordinated the response, securing the area and managing traffic flow to create a safe path for ambulances and emergency personnel.

Roughly ten officers were tasked with controlling the perimeter and directing traffic away from Avenida de Sant Jordi toward alternative routes. The area drew considerable attention, with around thirty people nearby gathering to observe the scene as events unfolded. The crowd’s attention shifted as officers worked to maintain order and gather information for the ongoing investigation.

By 22:40, the body remained in the roadway as authorities continued their work at the scene. The incident, which occurred around nine o’clock in the evening, saw medical teams persisting in resuscitation attempts while awaiting the arrival of the coroner to formally remove the deceased from the roadway and complete the initial investigative procedures.
