arrests linked to a New Year’s Eve incident at the Alicante Regatta Club

Three people were detained by the National Police following a flare launched from a sailboat anchored near the Alicante Regatta Club. The New Year’s Eve operation proceeded without major incidents, and alongside these three men of Ukrainian origin, ten more individuals were arrested overall, 206 people were identified, and twelve criminal reports were filed for possession or public consumption of drugs.

As a preventive measure to deter potential fights in the Alicante Port area, authorities carried out checks around four in the morning. Officers from the National Police Preventive and Intervention Unit, part of the Motorcycle Group “Rayos,” observed a sailboat docking at the harbor and the flare that had been fired moments earlier at the race club.

five flares

Following the flare incident, police notified Fire Brigade teams and identified three Ukrainian men, aged between 20 and 35, who displayed evasive behavior before police presence. In their clothing and in a nearby trash container, officers recovered up to five additional flares with the same characteristics as the one that caused damage to the sailboat, confirming the incident caused significant harm.

The Scientific Police Brigade will conduct a visual inspection of the vessel to gather more information and determine whether there is any link to the detainees, who claimed to be the owners of another boat moored at the same Alicante Regatta Club.

The rest of the New Year’s Eve arrests by the National Police included charges of criminal allegations, robbery with violence and threats, injuries, and assaults on law enforcement officers.

On the day before New Year’s Eve, two entertainment venues were inspected in a joint operation involving the National Police, Local Police, and the Valencian Community Police Unit.

The Provincial Police Station later stated that the Alicante New Year’s Eve balance was “completely normal,” noting there were no serious or highly disturbing events for residents thanks to the collaboration of police forces. The National Police emphasized ongoing efforts to prevent property crimes and to ensure peaceful coexistence across Alicante’s neighborhoods, especially during major celebrations like New Year’s Eve.
