Drivers holding a Tuesday appointment to undergo MOT in the Alicante region should brace themselves for delays due to ongoing industrial action and staffing shortages. Ordinary queues tend to form before inspection stations as staff shortages in the public sector ripple through the system. A 24 hour work stoppage called by unions CC OO and UGT is increasing the potential for longer wait times as they push for salary equalization and the terms of the agreement to be honored by the government. This outcome could lead to more lengthy delays for motorists seeking vehicle inspections in Alicante.
After negotiations failed to yield a settlement, the labor authorities issued a ruling affecting about 40 percent of workers who will be kept on minimum service levels. That means there could be a noticeable reduction in public attention and service capacity if the appeal proceeds in favor of the workers.
Nevertheless, Sitval announced it would maintain all scheduled appointments and intends to address the issue comprehensively, aligning with assurances given by the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism. If a complete resolution proves impossible, affected drivers will be given priority to return another day for their inspection.
Alicante ITV workers will go on strike next Tuesday
There is currently no information available on the public company’s website, raising the possibility of operational hiccups for users planning inspections tomorrow.
motifs
The strike scheduled for this Tuesday, which will recur every Tuesday and Thursday, is part of broader mobilizations led by CC OO and UGT. The goal is to press the Innovation Department to comply with the established law and the agreement reached last November to equalize salaries across Sitval employees. At the time, workers at each station were earning different rates depending on the dealership they were associated with. The transfer of the service to the public sector has particularly harmed the lowest-paid professionals at Alicante stations.
With the creation of a new public company that took over management of all centers of the Group in February last year, previous Generalitat leaders aimed to implement a solution that would equalize salaries according to category.
However, after a change in government following regional elections, the new administration suggested that the previously agreed plan could not be implemented as written due to processing errors. This raised the threat of the first strike, though a protest never materialized because ongoing negotiations in the department led by Nuria Montes produced a new agreement and a determination to put it into effect. The challenge now lies in extending this agreement to other Generalitat departments that must comply, particularly the Ministry of Finance, which has requested new documents and postponed the implementation.

Innovation reiterated its commitment to applying salary equalization retroactively from June last year, but the unions chose to proceed with mobilizations. The first demonstration occurred in Valencia last Friday, with another planned for the coming Tuesday. In addition, a 24-hour strike has been scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays on ITVs across the Alicante province. If the issue remains unresolved, the action will expand to the Valencian Community starting on the 27th of the month.
