Alicante hosted the second edition of the Economists Awards last Thursday evening, an event born from the profession itself to honor the people, companies, and institutions that contribute to the economic development of Alicante and Spain. The ceremony unfolded at the Teatro Principal in Alicante and was guided by journalist Anabel Rosas. A large audience from the corporate and business sectors joined the celebration to accompany the esteemed economists’ family in a heartfelt gala.

The dean of the Alicante College of Economists, Francisco Menarguesdio, opened with gratitude for the meaningful work of the group and welcomed the guests. He noted that even in a big city there are still abundant opportunities and acknowledged the challenges that must be faced together, emphasizing a collective effort to move forward.

Menargues stressed the ongoing realities in the community, highlighting persistent underfunding, water scarcity, and a region that lacks a Mediterranean-wide broadcasting perspective. He spoke of a country that attracts tourists but struggles to retain talent, a country recognized by the Film Academy but not yet optimized for the elderly, and he warned that the path to progress requires the combined effort of young and old, business owners, self-employed individuals, and economists alike.

Nevertheless, he concluded with a note of hope, urging that despite all obstacles, optimism is essential. He encouraged all actors connected to economic growth to collaborate in promoting development across the province and to pursue new, ambitious goals.
