The Alicante College of Economists marks a milestone by honouring exemplary contributions to economic growth and development. In a public ceremony scheduled for March 30, the organization will celebrate the second edition of its Economists Awards, a program created to recognize the dedication, impact, and leadership shown by individuals, enterprises, and institutions that drive Spain’s economic progress, with a special emphasis on the province of Alicante.
The gala, hosted at the Teatro Principal de Alicante, will feature six awards in this edition. The Central Rural Fund will be acknowledged for its Entrepreneurship Trajectory; the Digital Zone for the Promotion of Innovation; Riegos de Levante will receive the Sustainability Award; HE Murcia Official College of Economists will be recognized for the Promotion of Economic Knowledge; the Red Cross will be celebrated for its Social Responsibility; and Cristina Herrero Sanchez will be honored with the Economic and Social Compliance Award.
Francisco Menargues, dean of the Alicante College of Economists, underscored the purpose of the awards. He noted that the recognitions honour those who safeguard the country’s economic growth and who act as drivers of progress. He described the laureates as courageous professionals, committed firms, and forward looking institutions whose activities contribute to both economic advancement and social development across Spain. The awards aim to highlight practical leadership that translates into real benefits for communities, workers, and small businesses alike.
From its inception, the Economists Awards have celebrated a track record of industry collaboration and public service. The first edition honoured major partners including Banco Sabadell, the University of Alicante, Miguel Hernandez University in Elche, Ecisa, the Chamber of Commerce, Balearia, EUIPO, and the Diocesan Foundation, among others. These early recognitions helped shape the program into a broader platform for acknowledging sustained contributions to economic knowledge, innovation, and responsible business practices that uplift local economies and create opportunities for the next generation of economists.
Valentín Pich, president of the Spanish General Council of Economists, is expected to attend the 2023 Economists Awards Gala, along with a broad representation of business leaders and corporate representatives. The event will also feature a performance by a renowned mentalist, offering an engaging evening that blends entertainment with thoughtful discussion of economic progress. While the Economists Awards are presented twice a year, recent disruptions caused a pause in the schedule. The current edition is designed to resume the tradition of recognizing exceptional contributors and to reaffirm the community’s commitment to informed, responsible economic leadership. The ceremony is anticipated to conclude around 20:00, with Alicante serving as a focal point for dialogue on growth, innovation, and social responsibility during the evening’s proceedings.
