In a time when living costs keep climbing and most people rely on modest wages, every bit of help matters. Daily essentials like food, fuel, and housing have seen sharp price rises. Popular items such as olive oil are on many shoppers’ minds, and even back-to-school expenses have surged in recent years.

Families and individuals facing these bills are keen to cut costs as much as possible. That’s why some major supermarket chains and other sectors are rolling out discounts and promotions to assist specific customer groups. Government measures, including VAT reductions and increases in pensions and the minimum wage, also aim to ease the financial strain.

Carrefour is among the retailers offering targeted savings. The program focuses on retired people and those over 65, with France’s major retailer introducing its 65+ Card. This initiative is designed to help older shoppers access price reductions across several categories.

One immediate benefit is VAT savings on items in key sections such as butchery, delicatessen, fishmongery, cheese and eggs, bakery, fruit and vegetables, ready meals, and pastries. The promotion can be combined with Carrefour Club benefits for greater value.

  • 1% discount on everyday Carrefour purchases in supermarkets and hypermarkets.
  • 8% savings at gas stations or 4% at Carrefour Service Stations CEPSA for fuel purchases.
  • 5% off electricity and natural gas bills from Iberdrola, or 8% when accessed through Total Energies options.
  • 10% discount on car rentals with Europcar.
  • 5% off online orders from Telepizza.
  • VAT exemption or savings on bio fresh products.
  • 5% reduction on car, home, and life insurance under Carrefour Insurance.
  • 15% access discount for Rakuten TV services.
  • 5% savings on eyewear and audiology services with Alain Afflelou.

How to obtain the 65+ Card

To qualify for the 65+ Card, individuals must belong to the eligible age group and become Carrefour Club members, meeting the minimum age requirement. If the criteria are met, the card can be obtained at Carrefour stores by presenting valid age verification. The card carries no cost and can be used both in physical stores and online on Carrefour’s website or application.
