Savelyev has been a senator of the Tula region since 2016. Prior to that, he was a deputy of the State Duma of the sixth convocation, where he was a member of the committee on natural resources, environmental management and ecology.
From October 2016 to November 2023, the senator was a member of the Federation Council’s (FC) Budget and Financial Markets Committee. He later joined the Economic Policy Committee.
