A university leader announced that the fifth grade ancient history curriculum will broaden its scope to include sections on the Caucasus and Altai. This update was reported by a major Russian news agency and confirmed by the rector of MGIMO.

According to the plan, students will begin exploring history in class with a foundation that combines elements from Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and now Russian history. The curriculum will feature regions such as the Altai and the Caucasus, enriching the chronological landscape taught in classrooms.

Earlier, there was an announcement about the publication of a new university history textbook set to appear by the end of the 2023-2024 academic year.

The rector noted intentions to revise a paragraph within the chapter on oppressed peoples. The proposed revision responds to historical records of cooperation with external forces and references groups including Karachays, Kalmyks, Chechens, Ingush, Balkars, and Crimean Tatars. The revised text would address the state actions in 1943-1944, when the State Defense Committee decided to liquidate certain state formations within the USSR and relocate them to eastern regions under forced relocation policies.

There has also been public discourse within Russia about the creation of an electronic school library, with opponents voicing concerns about its development and implementation.
