Chinese doctors from Southeast University in Nanjing have solved the medical mystery of premature and painful ejaculation that a 32-year-old man had been experiencing for more than two years. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine Archives of Sexual Behavior (ASB).
Premature ejaculation (PE) remains a fairly common disorder, affecting 30 to 40% of men at some point. The causes of PE can be both physical and psychological.
Medical professionals noticed unusual symptoms in their patient – his condition began to worsen, along with premature ejaculation. It was accompanied by prolonged painful erection and pain in the pelvic area.
The cause of this phenomenon was determined using magnetic resonance imaging, which revealed an oval formation in the lower part of the lumbar spine.
The object turned out to be a so-called Tarlov cyst, which is a fluid-filled cavity in the sacrum area. Most often such cysts do not cause symptoms, but in the described case the cavity compressed the roots of the sacral nerves, which are responsible for various structures of the pelvis. This exposure led to sexual dysfunction.
After surgical removal of the cyst, the patient’s health almost completely improved within six months. Damage to nerves in the spine may be a more common cause of premature ejaculation than currently believed, doctors say.
Previous scientists named a way to prolong sexual intercourse.
