American dermatologist Debra Jaliman said Live Science says that an allergic reaction to ultraviolet radiation from the sun can occur. This is due to the genetic characteristics of the person and the presence of certain chemicals found in medicines or cosmetic products on the skin or in the body.
The dermatologist explained that the term “sun allergy” is a general description of various immune reactions to ultraviolet radiation. They may appear as itchy skin, red spots, blisters, or hives.
Polymorphous mild rash (PSE) is one of the most common forms of sun allergy. The disease is characterized by the appearance of minor inflammations in areas of the skin exposed to ultraviolet radiation. PSS mostly affects people living in the Northern Hemisphere. The reasons for this polymorphic burst of light are unknown.
Another common form of allergy to ultraviolet radiation from the sun is a photoallergic rash. Inflammation and redness occur as a result of the interaction of sunlight with chemicals in the body or on the skin surface. Examples of such compounds are musk fragrances and benzophenones found in some mineral sunscreens. Additionally, natural ingredients such as lemon juice can also trigger the rash.
Dr. Jaliman also noted that some antibiotics (tetracycline and ciprofloxacin), sulfur-based medications such as hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic) and isotretinoin (a drug used to treat acne) can also cause acne.
