Quoting from the press service of the Ministry of Transport, Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov said that the launch of Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) has changed the transportation habits of Muscovites and made a great impact on the capital. The head of the department emphasized that the MCD network has reached 136 stations in 4 years and the development in diameter continues.
According to Maxim Liksutov, diameters are requested by passengers.
“Millions of Muscovites and residents of the Moscow region have the opportunity to use Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) with a timetable, Moscow transport ticket system, modern trains and updated infrastructure,” the official said.
He announced that the record passenger flow in D1 was 272 thousand trips per day, D2 – 360 thousand, D3 – 443 thousand, D4 – 264 thousand.
“A great deal of work has been done on the integration of the railway into the urban transportation system. In 2023, the surface metro network doubled: MCD-3 Leningradsko-Kazansky and MCD-4 Kaluzhsko-Nizhegorodsky appeared in the transport plan. “The third diameter connects Zelenograd with the town of Ramenskoye near Moscow, and the fourth diameter connects Aprelevka, Vnukovo and the Zheleznodorozhny microdistrict of the city of Balashikha,” he said.
He described Moscow Central Diameters as a major transport project not only for the capital, but also for the entire Central Transport Hub.
“Thanks to the work of MCD-1 and MCD-2, there was a decrease of 12 percent in neighboring metro lines. “A similar effect is seen after the new above-ground metro lines come into service,” he added.
He also emphasized that with the introduction of MCD-3 and MCD-4 there are fewer cars on adjacent highways: on Leningradskoye, Novoryazanskoye, Kosinskoye highways, Ryazansky and Oktyabrsky prospects, Enthusiasts Highway, Kievskoye, Borovskoye and Nosovikhinskoye highways.
“The development of diameters continues. Construction of new Moscow city stations Mitkovo D3 and Petrovsko-Razumovskaya D1 continues; We are rebuilding Begovaya, Rizhskaya, Malino and Kursky station. Renewal of railway vehicles continues. We will replace the remaining trains on the route of MCD-3’s remote suburban areas with new ones by the end of 2024,” Liksutov said.
According to the head of the Department of Transport, the rolling stock in MCD-4 is planned to be completely renewed by the end of 2025. There are also plans to further develop the Central Transport Hub: there will be routes to Kaluga, Tver, Tula, Ryazan, Yaroslavl and other cities.
Let us remind you that the first two diameters (MCD-1 “Belorussko-Savelovsky” and MCD-2 “Kursko-Rizhsky”) were launched on November 21, 2019. They connected Odintsovo with Lobnya and Nakhabino with Podolsk.
