Almost half (46%) of Russians who want to live outside the city want to build their own country house from scratch. Most often these are men aged 36 to 45 years (61%). This is shown by a study by IC Rosgosstrakh and Otkritie, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.
47% believe building a home would be a more budget-friendly option than buying a ready-made home. Just over a third (36%) of respondents estimate the construction process will take about a year. One in four (26%) expect to do so within one to two years and one in five (21%) believe they will be able to cope within 6 months. The remaining 17% will not rush and will take three years or more to build a country house.
The most popular material for a country house among Russians is wood. 42% of respondents prefer this. 40% choose brick, and 11% want to build a country house from foam or aerated concrete.
About half of Russians (48%) understand that maintaining a country house is more expensive than an apartment. 28% believe there is no difference in where they will live financially, but financially it will be the same. And 24% think living in an apartment is more expensive than living at home.
