Honduran NGO Free Speech Committee (C-Libre) reported a journalist from the country was killed it will be this monday fifth reporter killed on Honduran soil so far this year.
Journalist Edwin Josué Andino Canaca, 23, was found shot dead near his home Monday morning after he was abducted in the Central Region city of Comayagüela. Also Andino Canaca’s father Edwin Emilio Andino Amador, 48, was also killed. His body was found 15 kilometers away.
The Honduran National Police stated that the murder of Andino Canaca and his father was the result of a crime planned by organized crime groups. Preliminary reports conclude that there is a pattern of executions for the attackers to enter the house in such a way that they would take the victims without creating a major scandal, the newspaper ‘Proceso’ reported. Local media may have seen eyewitnesses see how the perpetrators of the crime were, dressed in military police attirethey forcibly removed the victims from their homes.
Andino Canaca was a collaborator with La Tribuna (LTV), a television channel that offered condolences for the reporter’s death. “LTV’s officials, directors and collaborators are deeply saddened by the irreparable loss of the young man,” the company said.
The Honduran Journalists Association demanded that the authorities clarify this murder as soon as possible. “We strongly condemn the murder of young journalist Edwin Josué Andino and demand that his death not go unpunished,” said a message shared on the organization’s social networks.
