Scientists from the University of Vienna and Swiss High Technical School Lausanne found that the soles of special shoes of particles containing potentially dangerous compounds were distinguished in climbing climbers. In some cases, the concentration of these substances in the air exceeds the indicators recorded on the live city streets. Published in İş Magazine ACS ES & T AIR.
The glaze lies in the composition of the rubber: the soles of such shoes are made of materials similar to car tires. It contains special additives that increase power, but also cause concerns in terms of influencing health and environment.
Many of the researchers engaged in climbing, Vienna, France, Spain and Swiss halls gathered examples of air. They used a special device that mimic a person’s breathing to determine which particles could fall into the lungs. The results were even surprised by scientists themselves: with a large crowd of human beings, the content of the chemicals in the air reached record levels.
In the shoes of the team (30 pairs), the same substances were found as in tires. One of them – 6PPD – was already at the center of the attention of ecologists, because its derivatives are associated with the mass death of the fish in rivers.
Although the exact effect of these substances on human health has not yet been examined, scientists emphasize: such compounds should not fall into the air we breathe. This is particularly important for children and people with increasing sensitivity.
Good news – climbing owners showed that they are ready to cooperate. Researchers hopes that their work will help improve ventilation, change the cleaning approach and affect the composition of shoes for future climbers in the future.
