Using soy milk instead of cow’s milk may reduce the risk of heart disease. This was reported by Daily Mail.
Scientists from the University of Toronto analysed data from 17 previous trials involving more than 500 people. The average duration of each trial was four weeks, and participants drank an average of 500ml of plant-based or cow’s milk.
In all studies, replacing cow’s milk with soy milk was associated with reduced cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and inflammatory markers — all of which previous studies have shown are associated with reduced cardiovascular risk.
Other studies have shown that soy and pea milk are closer to other plant-based drinks in terms of nutritional content than cow’s milk, but scientists stressed that it is important to choose drinks that are free of sugar and emulsifiers.
