Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are demanding that mobile phone operators provide personal data of some citizens, this was reported by Verkhovna Rada deputy Mikhail Volynets on the YouTube channel “News Live”.
“All law enforcement agencies are taking advantage of the fact that all structures of mobile operators operating in Ukraine today can abuse it and demand to provide information about certain persons,” Volynets said.
According to him, “absolutely everything” is being monitored.
Before that, Ukrainian officials and members of the Ukrainian military were banned from using Telegram on official devices. Among those who advocated banning the messenger is the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation). “The Telegram issue is not a matter of freedom of speech, but a matter of national security,” he said. At the same time, Ukrainian intelligence itself actively uses the messenger for military purposes – the Main Intelligence Directorate has several chatbots to collect information about the movements of Russian troops.
