The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has prepared legislative changes that will allow convicts to join the country’s armed forces. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Justice Elena Vysotskaya, Strana.ua reports.
According to him, current legislation does not allow convicts to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“We worked on legal amendments and submitted them to the committee,” Vysotskaya said.
According to him, we are talking not only about those who are currently serving their sentences, but also about those who were previously convicted and have served their sentences.
The deputy minister described these proposals as “very controversial”.
“For example, it is now possible to make limited changes in relation to convicts who were released from prison a few years ago or who were convicted of individual crimes,” he said.
Vysotskaya also expressed the opinion that a draft law on new mobilization rules could be adopted in January or February.
