During the Finval-2023 exercises in the waters of the Chukotka and Bering seas, MiG-31 fighter-interceptors in the sky over the Chukotka Peninsula practiced intercepting a mock enemy. This was reported by telegram channel Russian Ministry of Defense.
One of the important parts of the exercises, held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, was the development of air defense actions for Chukotka against air attacks of a mock enemy. The two MiG-31 fighter jets on duty were scrambled to intercept target cruise missiles. Aerial targets were destroyed using air-to-air missiles. After completing the mission, the fighters returned to Anadyr airfield.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that approximately ten thousand military personnel and more than 50 pieces of military equipment participated in the exercises. These include surface ships and support ships, submarines, seaplanes and helicopters, “Bal” and “Bastion” coastal missile systems, wheeled and tracked armored vehicles with high terrain capability.
During the maneuvers, cruise missiles were successfully fired at complex targets located in the northeastern part of the Bering Sea.
The Ministry specifically emphasized that all parts of the exercise were defensive in nature.
