Putin orders to transfer payments for Russian gas to rubles for unfriendly countries
It was decided to convert payments for gas supplies to Europe into rubles as soon as possible. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reported.
According to the head of state, Russia will refuse to accept payment for natural gas supplies in compromised currencies, including dollars and euros.
“I have decided in the shortest possible time to implement a series of measures to transfer payments – let’s start with this – for our natural gas delivered for Russian rubles to the so-called unfriendly countries,” Putin said during a meeting with the government.
In this regard, the President of Russia has instructed the Central Bank and the government to determine within a week the order for the purchase of rubles in the domestic market by buyers of Russian gas. Putin clarified that Russia would supply gas in accordance with the volumes and pricing principles agreed in the contracts – only the currency of payment would change.
Against the background of Putin’s statement, the value of the dollar fell below 100 rubles during trading on the Moscow stock exchange on March 23.
