A man who fell behind his friends while hunting lived in the Amazon jungle for 31 days, eating worms. His story is told Independent.
While hunting in northern Bolivia, 30-year-old Jonathan Acosta fell behind four of his friends and got lost in the woods. After she disappeared, she lived for a month in the Amazon jungle, eating worms.
Acosta said he ate worms and other insects to stay alive and drank rainwater from his boots. The man also said he needed to hide from jaguars and peccaries, which are pig-like mammals.
When he was found by a search team of locals and friends, he lost nearly 17 pounds, sprained his ankle, and was dehydrated. But despite his limp, he could still walk.
“This is unbelievable, I can’t believe people kept searching for this long,” said the rescued man through tears.
All this time he ate worms, insects, and also wild fruits that looked like papaya.
The victim’s brother said he thought he had “one bullet in his gun, couldn’t walk and no one would be looking for him”.
Acosta reportedly used his last cartridge to frighten a pack of peccaries, and after the ordeal he endured, Jonathan decided to give up hunting forever.
After wandering for 31 days, he spotted the search party about 300 meters away and limped through the thorny bushes towards them, shouting to get their attention.
Police said they would meet with four of their friends to understand how the survivor broke up with them.
